Why Pilates for runners?

There are many benefits of Pilates for runners. Running is a popular and high impact physical activity. While it is good to improve your cardiovascular fitness, maintain healthy weight and burn calories it is also true that running related injuries are very common.

Pilates is good for improving core stability, flexibility and strengthening the muscles. So why Pilates for runners? What are the benefits?

  • Reducing the risk of injury

Muscle imbalances and inefficient functional movements are the most common reason for the running related injuries.

Pilates for runners exercises are focused on practicing the normal movement patterns and strengthening the muscles required for running.

  • Strengthening core muscles

Core muscles are so important for runners, as weak core muscles might cause overload in the spine which might lead to muscle strain in short term and lower back pain in the long term.

So you need to improve your core stability and strengthen the core muscles for more efficient, pain-free running. Pilates for runners will improve your technique and reduce the risk!

  • Improve breathing

If you have ever done Pilates you know what we are talking about, right? Pilates focuses on your breath during exercise and will improve synchronising with your breath.

So if you can control your breath during running that means more oxygen and less fatigue!
